LIOU supported the establishment of the International Charity Fund “Protection fund of freedom of speech in Ukraine”

April 15 International League for the Protection rights of citizens of Ukraine presented the creation of the International Charity Fund of protection of freedom of speech in Ukraine. League of Insurance Organizations of Ukraine, which was the media partner of the event was presented by the President LIOU Alexander Filonyuk and director of information policy LIOU Irina Denisova.

Chairman of the Board of Directors Eduard Bagirov introduced the purpose of the International Charity Fund “Protection fund of freedom of speech in Ukraine” and invited media representatives on the event to sign a memorandum of cooperation and to become co-founders of the Foundation. “The situation with freedom of speech in Ukraine does not hold any criticism: journalists are unable to carry out their professional duty,” – said human rights activist Eduard Bagirov.

The primary objective of the International Charity Found of freedom protection of speech in Ukraine – to protect the journalist profession and make it more independent and free. This, according to the organizers of the initiative will serve as an additional incentive for the development of civil society in Ukraine.

LIOU actively working with journalists and keeps control of the situation regarding illegal actions against them. Thus, according to the Institute of mass information (IMI), for the first quarter of 2016 in Ukraine there were fixed 7 cases of attacks on journalists.

League of Insurance Organizations of Ukraine, which last year within the framework of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committeee on freedom of expression and information policy together with IMI and other project partners worked on the bill on the regulation of insurance professional activity of journalists in the area of ATO, fighting, emergencies, etc. . said that for the firts was the problem of the cost of the insurance policy and the financing of the project, as many journalists work as freelancers and are unable to protect themselves and their families on their own.
