LIOU ASKS GOVT, ECONOMY MINISTRY TO EXPLAIN HOW TO INSURE FOREIGNERS, STATELESS PERSONS

The League of Insurance Organizations of Ukraine (LIOU) has asked Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers and Ukraine’s Economic Development and Trade Ministry to explain how to insure foreigners and stateless persons, the league said in a press release.

The LIOU said that the government resolution on the visa rules for entering Ukraine and transit passengers regulates only the size of the insurance sum in the amount of at least EUR 30,000, while the insurance conditions are not mentioned. The resolution took effect on April 16, 2017.

The league said that the issues that are to be explained are the list of risks to be covered by the medical insurance policies, the procedure for signing these policies, including at the border checkpoints, settling of the insurance issue if foreigners have valid insurance policies signed in the country where they live with the coverage required on the territory of Ukraine and other issues.

“The situation with the procedure for buying insurance policies by foreigners is not settled, taking into account the fact that the visas can be issued at the border checkpoints and the electronic visa can be issued,” the league said.

The LIOU proposed to use experience of insurance when persons go to the Schengen zone of the European Union. According to the Visa Code, applicants for visas are obliged to present the valid medical insurance policy to cover unexpected expenses.

The LIOU proposed to create a working group with participation of representatives of the national commission for financial service markets regulation, LIOU and insurance companies to discuss the issues.
